About Doi Inthanon National Park, Thailand

Doi Inthanon National Park is known as one of Thailand's largest national parks with a variety of rare plants and animals, which is a famous eco-resort with dozens of natural waterfalls and caves deep in the old pristine forest. The park is extremely an attractive destination for the adventurous tourists, because it is the largest mountain range of the country with the highest peak of Inthanon at an altitude of 2.565m above sea level.

Namtok Mae Ya waterfall

Namtok Mae Ya is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Chiang Mai. The water flows from the steep cliffs of 280 meters through the various rock formations and pours into a pond below, creating a beautiful setting.

Namtok Mae Klang waterfall

Namtok Mae Klang is a 100-meter waterfall. From the junction of highway No.1009, turn left onto the asphalt paved road about 500 meters, you will meet this beautiful waterfall. Near Namtok Mae Klang, it is Tham Bori Chinda cave which is a large cave with an impressive formation of stalactites and stalagmites.

Doi Inthanon Royal Project

Royal Doi Inthanon is located in Khun Klang village, close to Doi Inthanon National Park. The project was initiated in 1979 to help mountainous ethnic minorities grow the industrial crops instead of opium plant and train them to practice modern agriculture. Most of the products are kinds of temperate vegetables and flowers. There are the flowering plantations and a crop research center in the area are open to visitors.

The double temple of Phra Mahathat Napha Methanidon and Phra Mahathat Naphaphon Bhumisiri

Phra Mahathat Napha Methanidon and Phra Mahathat Naphaphon Bhumisiri is a double temple located in the area of the park. The double temple was built to commemorate the birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit. Situated on two mountain peaks near each other, both temples of similar size, design, and color are connected by a walking path. Two temples store the relics of Buddhists and Buddha statue. This double temple is crowded with visitors to visit on their same occasion they visit Doi Inthanon National Park.

Doi Inthanon has a cool climate all year round. This is also the place where the King's Palace of Inthawichayanon is located. He was the last king of Chiang Mai land. Inthawichayanon was the king who cared about the importance of the forest and the necessity of protecting the forest for future generations. He was very familiar with this place, so when he was about to die, he proposed to retain some of his body ashes here.

Namtok Mae Pan waterfall

Namtok Mae Pan is the longest waterfall in the park, flowing from a 100-meter high cliff. You can enjoy the charm of it by standing from far a little bit. In the distance, white-water froth and green forests around the waterfall together paint a beautiful picture. From Km 38 on the road No.1009, you drive along this road about 6 km, you will see the waterfall, then you drive on a 9 km on the unpaved road, you will reach the waterfall. In the rainy season, the road to Namtok Mae Phan is in bad condition, only access the waterfalls by car.

Go trekking

The wooden road is 360 meters long, passing through wet and lush valleys. The forest is covered with lichens and wild orchids. Indigenous plants require a high level of nutrients, growing very lush which is the home of many species of birds, the rare birds to be seen along the path. There are many nature trails in the national park with different characteristics of plant diversity. The walking trails are about 1 to 8 km long, so you can enjoy the view.

The Bird Watching Center is located at Km.31. This is where the bird watchers, natural-based students, and the general public come to see the world of beautiful birds. There are full of detailed information about the habitat and food of birds and animals living in this mountain park. The purpose is to convey this knowledge to the next generation.
